Personally, I think the whole idea of burning symbols is silly; juvenile, really. Burning flags, Bibles, Qurans, images of world leaders, whatever. It’s the classic case of symbolism over substance, as though burning religious texts is really tantamount to somehow causing physical damage to the belief system itself. Pastor Terry Jones’ idea of burning Qurans on 9/11 was dumb, more than I think it was “outrageous.” Once again, the word “juvenile” comes to mind.
That said, there is once aspect to the furor that I find curious: namely, where were all of the First Amendment “usual suspects” throughout the discussion of Pastor Terry’s proposed plans? You know…those of the leftist persuasion who have, in the past, elevated the act of spitting on symbols near and dear to both patriotic Americans and devout Christians to an art form? Where are you people, anyway?
Where are the flag-burners? The filth-mongers? Where are all those who always seem so vocal, so strident, in their support of purposeful, graphic, visceral acts that test the wills of even the most ardent of First Amendment supporters? Where in the world are the people like Andres Serrano, the photographer whose contribution to his art includes his masterpiece called Piss Christ, which is his photographic rendering of a crucifix submerged in a glass of (his own) urine? Should he not be standing in outspoken solidarity with the Pastor?
If only the Pastor had declared that the act of burning the Quran was to be an example of “artistic expression.”
Like I said, I think the idea of destroying symbols that have so much meaning to so many is pretty stupid, but I marvel at the hypocrisy, the double standards…that are in evidence when the symbols targeted are those out of favor with the leftist, traitorous scum we know all too well.

I agree. It is sad to see the blindness of so many. Christ said He would be hated, and we sure do see that happening everywhere, even though He loves everyone and will save anyone who trusts in Him.
