It doesn’t take a particularly astute person to realize that, in terms of the mainstream media as well as by the consensus of the usual suspect loudmouthed liberals and racial activists, blackness in this country is evaluated in direct proportion to one’s political inclinations. The farther left you sit on the political spectrum, the blacker you get to be. This must be why Bill Clinton was referred to as America’s first black president, while conservative Alan Keyes, a black Republican who served under Reagan and who is well known for his pro-life views, is barely acknowledged by those in many black political circles as even existing.
Now, we have the next high-profile black representative of conservative-libertarian ideology, and he is already sure to be as “invisible” as Keyes. Herman Cain, former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City as well as the former chairman and CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, has been mulling a run at the presidency in 2012. Cain is not only a Republican, but a darling of the Tea party crowd, so much so that he won the straw poll at this past weekend’s gathering of the Tea Party Patriots.
Not surprisingly, the leftists have gone berserk over this, and most disconcertingly, their uncloaked racism is already front and center in their discussion of Cain. The liberal blog site AlterNet, via author Chauncey DeVega…a pseudonym, of course, because he (or she) is such a hero…published a particularly horrible piece about Cain following the speech he gave a few weeks ago to CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Committee. What follows are a few tidbits from the article, itself insultingly called Black History Month is Herman Cain Playing the Race Minstrel for CPAC:
“As you know, I find black garbage pail kids…fascinating not because of what they believe, but rather because of how they entertain and perform for their White Conservative masters.”
Very nice; then there’s this one:
“We will always need a monkey in the window, for he/she reminds us of our humanity while simultaneously reinforcing a sense of our own superiority.”
There’s lots more, but you get the picture.
The left is as replete with racists as any other group on the political spectrum…they’ve just always been better, overall, at hiding the fact; Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, and many, many more like them have evidenced their own prejudiced tendencies over the years, but their enablers in the mainstream media have always done their best at keeping such truths well-hidden. As for the AlterNet piece…on what mainstream media news outlet have you heard anything about it? Had a conservative blogger like Michelle Malkin written something about President Obama or any other black politician of the liberal persuasion and used the same sort of racial invectives used by “Chauncey DeVega,” it would be the only thing any of us heard about for weeks.
I don’t know how well Herman Cain will do should he formally declare his candidacy. That’s not the issue, as far as I’m concerned; for me, the issue is if one who is black actually gets to be black as a politician if he’s not also an entitlement-waving, vote-pandering socialist? The early returns are in, courtesy of AlterNet, and the result is, both apparently and very sadly…no.
